General Information

Lefkas town has banking and shopping facilities and many cafeterias and tavernas. There is a main pedestrianised area and square which is a meeting place and a hive of activity in the evening. There is also a main post office , hospital and police station. A new marina is under construction and throughout the summer Lefkas town is a busy place with many festivals and power boat races taking place. Banks and the post office only open Monday- Friday mornings. Shops generally open mornings and evenings, are closed all day Sunday and the afternoons for siesta time.

Elsewhere on the island you will only find banking facilities (including cash machines) in the main tourist resorts but the tourist agencies are always open when the banks are closed, so it is not difficult to change your money or travellers cheques. The shops here also tend to stay open all day during high season. Nightlife is limited to eating out and trying the local wine at the many bars. Discos are few but there is always plenty going on around the harbours of Nidri and Vassiliki with the other smaller resorts offering a quieter atmosphere with not so much hustle and bustle.
